Finnegans Wake, Chapter 1

Film Screening

19 November 2024 — Present

Finnegans Wake, Chapter 1, a new film of James Joyce’s divine and delirious comedy by One Little Goat Theatre Company, is now available online for free. Along with its accompanying podcast series, the film is produced by “Toronto’s enterprising One Little Goat” (New York Times) in association with the James Joyce Centre.

This marks the first of 17 chapters in Finnegans Wake (1939), as brought to life by the virtuosic performances of Irish-Canadian actor Richard Harte. Directed by Adam Seelig and filmed before live audiences, this ambitious project marks the first ‘audio-video book’ of Finnegans Wake and is a valuable resource for both new and seasoned readers of Joyce’s extraordinary final work.

“Actor Richard Harte has found a way to crack the private code and maintain the original voltage… of one of the most funny and challenging novels of the 20th century, Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.” Cahir O’Doherty, The Irish Voice

Finnegans Wake, Chapter 1 premiered at the Toronto Irish Film Festival, European Union Film Festival, and Bloomsday Film Festival at the James Joyce Centre.
