The James Joyce Centre was delighted to host two captivating performances by acclaimed Irish actor Barry McGovern in association with Anna Livia Creative 23-24 January 2025.

McGovern, celebrated for his mastery of Joyce and Beckett, read from DublinersA Portrait of the Artist as a Young ManFinnegans Wake, and Ulysses, along with Joyce’s poetry. As he explained: “I want to offer a potpourri of Joyce’s works for both newcomers and longtime admirers.”

Barry McGovern is one of Ireland’s most distinguished actors, with an illustrious career in theatre, film, and radio. Renowned for his performances of Beckett, including I’ll Go On and Krapp’s Last Tape, McGovern has also earned acclaim in productions like Waiting for Godot and Endgame. His film credits include BraveheartThe General, and the Irish-language Fidil Ghorm. McGovern’s achievements include an honorary doctorate from Trinity College Dublin, the Edinburgh Angel Award, and recordings of Ulysses and Finnegans Wake.

The James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
